Moodboard

I am creating a mood board in order to understand my target audience. I am considering a more artistic genre because I love photography and am interested in a high quality outcome. This is my mood board for the style of my magazine in which I represent the genre of Indie Dance. I will try to reflect these colours and consider whether I will use celebrity placement, or whether I will reflect a  more sophisticated audience and create a more subtle final piece.

I'd focus obviously on the Indie social groups but more specifically at the younger generations, possibly ranging from approximately 16-26.Indie social groups are stereotypically white, middle class males and females. 

Research into the Conventions of Magazine Front Covers

Analytical research into Indie magazine codes and conventions was fully necessary for myself to 'pull off' an acceptable and directly linked magazine front cover to the Indie genre that is so specific to such a target audience. 

Inspiration for Front Cover

My new idea for my front cover is to use animal masks in a forest like area and a retro radio to further identify that it is a magazine I am creating; that being a music magazine. The following images reflect the idea of an Indie magazine having the potential to be a piece of art that one would like to leave out on a coffee table, for example, for decoration rather than purely a information booklet. I have been inspired by the images below:

I would like my contents page to maintain the artistic aspect that Indie music magazines are perceived to have and intend on using the following scrapbook style images to influence the style of my contents page:

Research into the Conventions of a Contents Page

I analytically researched into Indie magazine codes and conventions of contents page just as I did for my front cover to maintain to target the correct audience in the way I intend to do so and construct a continuous representation of Indie interests, society and music.

Inspiration for Double Page Spread

I looked at a variety of double page spread magazines and books that match the linear structure I plan on influencing my music magazine double page spread to appear like and similar typography and type face. I am also interested in the use of columns portrayed in the following images as well as experimenting with colour schemes and ratios in relation to images and text. The extensive research into a double page spread is just as important as the analytical research into the front cover and contents page of an Indie Music Magazine to allow a different interpretation of the artistic development of Indie magazines as well as the way the information is conveyed and how I approach the representation of Indie audiences.
