Planning

Magazine Fonts

The following text styles are experimentations for my first attempt at using photoshop in the context of magazine production reflecting the image I'd like my magazine to represent and the values they suggest.

Magazine Measurements and Layout

Very early on in our planning stages we had a workshop where we analysed magazine measurements in relation to the size and spacing to improve my understanding of layout and specific positioning.
I have also analysed the use of language in varying genres of magazines from pop to indie to rock and established the language register I intend on using when targeting my Indie audience who are rather middle class and intellectual.

Possible Layouts for Front Cover
Having intensely experimented with the organisation of my front cover, I have came to decide three possible magazine layouts for my Indie Music Magazine. I like the last one the most because it looks the least crowded but shows it will have enough information to intrigue readers.

Final Layout for Front Cover
This is my final layout for my front cover of the music magazine having experimented many other ways. This presents the ratio of the main image to the other conventions of the magazine cover being the main cover line and the mast head, the cover line and the bar code.

Final Layout for Contents Page
To construct the layout plan for my contents page I used the program Microsoft Publisher to experiment the ideal contents page layout for 'MOON' magazine in order to fit an adequate amount of article titles for my feature index as well as enough images to attract the reader. Microsoft Publisher easily down scales the size of my actual contents page but continued to portray the layering and codes/conventions of my magazine contents.

This is the final layout for my main task music magazine contents pa
ge.
Final Layout for Double Page Spread
Having researched the typical conventions of certain Double Page Spread layouts and experimented with shapes and symmetry as well as asymmetrical patterns I have come to decide upon a final layout for 'MOON's double page spread:
