Reaction Shot
A cut to a shot of a character's reaction to the contents of the preceding shot to imply the display of some sort of emotion on the face of the actor being shown
Insert Shot
An insert is a shot of part of a scene as filmed from a different angle and/or focal length from the master shot. Inserts emphasise a different aspect of the action in the master shot due to the different framing
Buffer/Neutral Shot
A film technique of inserting a shot into a film to disguise a mistake, or a cut
Fade and Dissolve
Gradual fade from one shot to the next to possibly show either a sense of passing time or changing location
Superimposing
Two distinct images appearing simultaneously with one superimposed upon the other
Wipe
One shot is progressively replaced by another shot in a geometric pattern; used to show change in location
Stock/Library Shot
A single piece of footage that has been used in other films to save shooting new material
